Traditional Foods

I recently had the privilege of attending the Westin A. Price Foundation conference. The Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) is your source for accurate information on nutrition and health, always aiming to provide the scientific validation of traditional foodways.

It was an amazing weekend learning from teachers and leaders in the industry of health and wellness. The one I enjoyed the most was Ronda Nelson, PHD who taught a three part series on the thyroid. It was over six hours of education and training.  Ronda Nelson is a practitioner, and currently teaches and trains medical doctors around the world, all about the thyroid. It was very fascinating. I knew some of the material, I learned something new and now I can say I better understand other things.

Being someone who works in the field of nutrition and bio energetics, it was fascinating to me that we just need to reiterate how important it is to let real foods heal the body. There was tons of talk about ancient traditions, where we use fermented foods, like sauerkraut, kimchi, KomBucha and other foods like liver pate’s and bone broths that are so healing for the gut and grass fed, organic dairy and raw milk.

There’s so many nutrient dense foods available today that if we just add them to our diets we would have less symptoms and we wouldn’t need as many supplements.

With my clients I use a modality called Nutrition Response Testing which is a form of muscle testing.  If someone has a food sensitivity such as gluten or dairy or eggs or what have you, through Nutrition Response Testing we can discover if a food sensitivity exists.  I firmly believe that not one size fits all when it comes to nutrition. Everybody’s body is different and has a different chemistry going on.  What one food may make one person sick another one may make them totally healthy. The thing that is so valuable to learn from the Weston A. Price foundation is that we need to go back to real whole foods high quality meats that are grass fed, organic, and they live in nature as God intended them to.

Eating high-quality fats such as avocados, coconut oil, grass fed organic butters, lard, sprouted nuts and seeds are some of traditional fatty foods that benefit our bodies.  All of these high quality fats have an important role to play in our body.

Every single cell has a need for quality fats. Quality fats heal the brain, our nerve endings and the outer rim of our cells.   Fermented cod liver oil is so important because not only are you getting the omega-3’s but you’re getting vitamin D and vitamin A. A vendor at the conference was Green Pasture.  They have a whole line of sustainable, fermented, wild caught cod-liver oil.

Not only did I learn about foods at the Weston A. Price foundation conference, I also learned about different ways that we can improve our health such as avoiding the sitting disease and moving our bodies and breathing. Yoga such does have it correct, the breath is amazing at supporting our bodies.  I learned about getting out in nature and forest bathing, grounding ourselves and really taking time for self-care and how our emotional wounds of shock and trauma in our life will show up in physical symptoms. Every physical symptom has an emotional root.

This past year has been an eye opening experience working with my clients.  I find when the clients who are willing to go within and work on loving themselves more fully and deeply are the ones who attain their health goals faster and maintain optimal health better then the clients who choose not to do the self-development.  Finding the breath, praying, meditating, pausing and going within are such huge components of healing.

I encourage you to go Within and to eat real traditional foods that God gave us.  Check out the Weston A. Price Foundation to learn more.
