5 Reasons to Drink Hot Lemon Water Daily?

Years ago I read the Fat Flush Plan book by Ann Louise Gittelman.  During that period of time I was dealing with lots of digestive issues and sugar cravings and doing many things to clean up my liver and digestive tract.  You can read my full story here.  

Recently, I visited with my acupuncturist and she mentioned hot lemon water to me.  I had forgotten about this ritual and decided to start doing it again.

So what are the benefits of drinking hot lemon water?

According to Ann Louise Gittelman, the biggest benefits are to support the liver and kidneys. 

She states:

The lemon found in hot water-lemon drink benefits bile formation, which is essential for optimal fat metabolism and helps regenerate the liver.  It also promotes peristalsis, the movement in the bowels that keeps waste moving along the digestive tract and out of the body for elimination.

The hot lemon water drink gives your kidneys another boost with lemon’s diuretic action.

Here are 5 other reasons to drink hot lemon water on a daily basis.

  1. Hot or warm water will help support a tired body and improve circulation, digestion and mental status.   Drinking warm liquids always provides relief from a cold or viruses.
  2. Lemons are full of vitamins b and c, which are an immune booster and has calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium
  3. Lemons are great for weight loss.  For some people that maybe be the number one reason to drink hot lemon water.  Drink the hot lemon water before breakfast to burn calories and to remove toxins from your body.  Studies have shown that compounds found in citrus fruits help fight conditions such as obesity.
  4. Lemons can relieve and improve digestive issues.  Since lemon juice supports the liver to produce more bile it also aids in the digestive process. This can relieve gas, bloating and constipation.
  5. Hot lemon water will have an alkaline effect, despite their citric acid content.  Dis-ease thrives in an acid state and our bodies are constantly striving to create balance in the body.  Eating more alkaline foods such as fruits and veggies especially lemon will create a more alkaline environment.

Working with my Nutrition Response Testing clients we check the HCI point to make sure that the stomach acids are up to par.  If someone has acid reflux we try drinking Apple Cider Vinegar or Lemon water first before we add in a product to support that check point.

Quick and Simple Lemon Juice

  • 8-10oz of hot water
  • Grab a lemon
  • Squeeze the juice of a lemon in the cup of heated water, you may add a couple of drops of liquid stevia for a sweeter taste. Enjoy

You may use already squeezed lemon juice as long as it’s organic and there are no other ingredients in the juice.
